Juice Fasting
Juice fasting is an extreme form of detox diet. For a certain period of time, the dieter consumes nothing but juice. Juice fasting prompts the body to expel toxins and other harmful preservatives stored in fat and organs.
A juice fast can last anywhere from a day to a month. The juices that are used typically are made of mixtures of fruit and vegetables that have been strained into liquids. Simple juices like orange juice and cranberry juice are highly recommended, along with complex juices strong in calcium or antioxidants. Due to the fact that dieter is only consuming juice, and nothing else, it is important to make sure the juices consumed contain a healthy amount of nutrients. Physicians and juice fasting experts encourage novices to approach a juice fast slowly. The first three fasts should only last a day and be well spaced out by at least a week. After that, the dieter can typically move up to the three day fast. Once they can comfortably accomplish this, they can begin experimenting with longer detoxes lasting one week and even up to twenty-eight days. It is important, however, to consult a medical professional before beginning any type of long-term juice fast. Building up to a long fast is important. The sudden change in diet and drop in fat consumption will harm the unprepared body. By slowly experimenting with fasting with juice, the dieter learns which juices work best for his or her body. This allows him or her to choose a healthy and balanced regimen for a long term fast. Detox diets are meant to encourage our bodies to cleanse themselves of toxins and other harmful agents stored in our fat and organs. Many packaged foods contain chemicals and preservatives. The organs cannot process or digest these agents so cells and fat absorb them. A juice fast encourages the cells to release these agents and expel them. The strict intake of juice allows the organs to stop focusing on digestion and start the process of cleansing themselves. It should be warned, however, that juice fasting may have side effects. The sudden release of toxins in your body can cause bouts of dizziness or fatigue. In fact, this is quite normal. In addition, a juice faster may experience irritability as the body adjusts to a different intake level of proteins. This should pass in a few days. The initial problems experienced by a juice faster are mitigated by a gradual build up to longer diets. It is important to avoid strenuous activity while on a juice fast. While some dieters do actually experience increased energy levels, it is important not to engage in heavy exercise or activity that can seriously weaken the system. Pregnant women and children should not go on a juice fast. Consult a book, spa, or specialist to find out what kind of juice fast will work for you. Juice fasting is a great way to cleanse your body of extraneous toxins. If left to stew for a lifetime, these toxins can cause disease and other health problems. If done right and under proper medical supervision, juice fasting can help you live a longer and healthier life. |
