Fo-Ti

Fo-ti is a plant native to China. The medicinal value comes from the root which, when boiled, is called red fo-ti. When consumed raw it is called white fo-ti.

What it fo-ti good for?

The red fo-ti is a folk Chinese remedy for longevity and vitality. It is said to stop or reverse graying hair. Fo-ti also helps solve erectile dysfunction in men. Several studies show that fo-ti improves memory.

White fo-ti encourages bowel movements. It is often used to cure constipation. In excess fo-ti causes loose stools. Exercise moderation when using the raw herb.

How can I purchase fo-ti?

Capsules of fo-ti are available over the counter. You can also purchase fo-ti as a raw herb and prepare it yourself. Herbalists suggest boiling the root with black beans.

Daily dosage is anywhere between 5 – 15 grams depending on the product and its potency.

Are there any side effects?

Excess of fo-ti intake can cause diarrhea. Some patients have a slight allergic reaction and develop rashes, though this is highly uncommon.

Do not take fo-ti if you have ovarian cancer, breast cancer, prostate cancer, or cancer of the uterus. Fo-ti is high in estrogen and its effect on women with estrogen related cancers is suspect and unknown.
