Chamomile

Chamomile is taken from the flower heads of the chamomile plant which grows in Europe. Commonly brewed as a tea, chamomile is taken for its relaxing effect.

What is chamomile used for?

Chamomile tea has a number of uses. It calms the nerves and is often used as a mild sedative. While not as strong as prescription sleeping pills, chamomile soothes the nervous system and relaxes the user.

A standard dose of chamomile will also soothe digestive pain and stomach problems. Most abdominal irritation is eased by chamomile tea. The German grown chamomile is bitter and especially effective for inflammation.

Chamomile eases symptoms of the common cold and flu. It eases sore throats, upset stomachs and diarrhea.

Chamomile tea also relieves menstrual cramps.

Is there any reason not to use chamomile?

Pregnant women should not drink chamomile tea. In large doses it harms the fetus and causes miscarriage. Anyone allergic to chamomile tea should avoid it and its extracts. The oil in chamomile can cause great harm. Do not mix chamomile with blood thinners.

How much should I use?

Chamomile comes as a liquid, a pill, and the tea. The tea can be consumed many times a day but the pill should be limited to three daily doses.

A healthy tea

Anyone suffering from insomnia or anxiety will benefit greatly by drinking chamomile tea. During illness, chamomile eases the suffering of the patient. It can even help with menstrual discomfort. Only those allergic to chamomile and its oils should avoid this wonderful and rejuvenating tea.
